Volume II [No.17]

Apple of My Ear
----------------------------------------
 [Entry #6]
                                          Good Friends
                                      Plants & Animals
----------------------------------------------------
I wanna give, I wanna give, I want to give everything up for grabs.
I wanna say, I wanna say, I wanna say all the little things.
I wanna make, I wanna make, I wanna make all of the good times.
I want to shake, I want to shake, I want to shake, I want to shake your hand.
But what I really want to do is dance.
I wanna dance. I wanna dance. I wanna dance. I wanna dance.
I wanna dance. I wanna dance. I wanna dance. I wanna dance.
I wanna dance. I wanna dance.

I wanna feel, I wanna feel, I want to feel lake water.
I wanna think, I wanna think, I wanna think, Oh man I want to think something fine.
I wanna take, I wanna take, I want to such a long long time.
I wanna wake, I wanna wake, I want to wake up and see your shoes in the stairwell.

It takes a good friend to say you've got your head up your ass.
It takes a good friend to meet you in the park in the dark.
It takes an enemy to help you get out of bed.
It takes your lover to leave you, to feel loneliness.

I wanna dance. I wanna dance. I wanna dance. I wanna dance.
I wanna dance. I wanna dance. I wanna dance. I wanna dance.
I wanna dance. I wanna dance.

I want you, I want you, I want you, I want you to sew a button on my shirt.
I want you, I want you, I want you, I want you to come home.
I want you, I want you, I want you, I want you to help us out.
I want you, I want you, I want you, I want you only to love me for my black eyes.

It takes a good friend to say you've got your head up your ass.
It takes a good friend to meet you in the park in the dark.
It takes and enemy to help you get out of bed.
It takes your lover to leave you, to feel loneliness.

                                          Jack Nimble

                                   Lady of the Sunshine
----------------------------------------------------
Jack be nimble, Jack be quick
Jack jumped right over the candle stick
To a flame he chose had a name called hell
Where the devils child drank blood and was always well

Jack lived simple with his lady Jill
Till he come on home his heart she stole
He caught her messing with another man
So he got his gun and shot them down

Close to Jill lying there
All alone
He lost his mind beneath the stairs
All alone

Jack be nimble, Jack be quick
Jack jumped right over the candle stick

Close to Jill his broken crown
All alone
See the growth stalk the goat
All alone

We were young

It’s like, you can go to a real fancy restaurant and have a not-so-good time or you can take your meal out onto the gutter and have a ball, the aesthetics are not always the key to something that is amazing...

[On being banned from his house since he was 19]
...'I [had] chickens in the house' he says with a cheeky grin. 'I’m joking, I got caught smoking inside'
[there’s also the small matter of the greenhouse he built on the roof to "grow tomatoes"]. Six months later, Dad had a look and pulled down all my mull plants...he left them there on the deck just so I knew he’d seen them, but then I just hid them down the back and replanted them.'
[On spending most of the year on the road, slowly making his way up to Byron Bay and the hippie haven of Nimbin in his old 1966 Valiant]
'I’ve just been nowhere really' as he rolls a cigarette out on the back deck. 'Just living on my lonesome and regathering my thoughts, experiencing things for the first time again. I’d just drive to a beach, surf and camp in the car'...

...It was a memory of being at Woodford a few years back. It was stinking hot, and we went down the river. I saw this lady up the river a little bit, and the sun was glowing on her and she was just... beautiful
[On the origin of Lady of the Sunshine]

I think music is a feeling. Music is passion and music is pure joy for me. Music is spiritual mass.

...the rhythm [to Kids] was inspired by the dance of our pet praying mantis Kuivila, who was named after our Experimental Music professor who advised on our senior project. But it was actually a female praying mantis — we got her and put her in a terrarium, and she eventually laid three egg sacs. And we'd had her for so long, we thought,
"Oh, those egg sacs can't be fertilized." But we came home one day, and our living room was full of tiny mantisses. And they were all fighting with each other, too. I, uhh, didn't know it at the time, but I guess they cannibalize...

...'No thanks, Rihanna'
[Andrew's response when Ben offered to share his umbrella]

I stumbled upon this amazing truth and like special little blue pill and it's just called be like a child...

...[A]llowing energy to just pour through...when it's not about posturing or posing - it's just about really being, and expressing that fully - the natural succession of events is that if you do that infront of people they'll be like 'aah'
- like if it's real, they'll feel the realness and just feel that and want to participate and experience it...the power of no inhibition and no self-censorship [is important for] what that can do for other people around you too...

...I think a lot of things that feel really good on a natural, instinctual, intrinsic level are against Western culture - just naturally . You don't have to be against Western culture to be against Western culture on accident, because you just happen to be doing what feels good - you know what I mean ? So I think it's just a source subsequent effect of being true to yourself .

                                                       Joy
                              Circulatory System
----------------------------------------------------
We're only made of water sand and stone
We're made of joy and make believe
We're only made of sky
sky, and its true
If you still believe in joy
Even if the world is full of hate
We can blast away inside, way inside
You can stil believe in joy
even when the world is loss and pain
You can blast away inside, way inside
its no secret we have this little blue world
Do you still believe in joy
and blast away at confusion and pain
No matter what you look like, or feel like
Its no secret we have this little blue world inside

                                                    Breeze
                                    Apollo Sunshine
----------------------------------------------------
The surface of streams
The fingers of trees
The sweet harmonies
The breeze and its lovers
Its hard to believe the wind
When it touches me
Isn't just the way that I long to touch you

The delicate petals
And all of the metals
The old and the hopeless
The young and inspired
The best and the worst times
The breeze is invited
That's just the way that I long to touch you

 [Entry #1]

                                    Playground Love

                Air
----------------------------------------------------
I'm a high school lover, and you're my favorite flavor.
Love is all, all my soul.
You're my Playground Love.

Yet my hands are shaking.
I feel my body reeling, time's
no matter, I'm on fire.
On the playground, love.

You're the piece of gold, the flashes on my soul.
Extra time, on the ground.
You're my Playground Love.

Anytime, anyway,
You're my Playground Love.
